Need AutoX Build Advice
Hey everyone,
So I recently sold my Ducati M696 and spent most of the profits on parts to turn my 2013 brz ltd into an autocross focused but also trackday car. Here is what I've recently purchased: -17x9 et35 enkei rpf1 wheels -245/40/17 MPSS tires -APR studs w/ mishimoto lugs -whiteline 22mm front sway bar w/ adj endlinks (still waiting for the endlinks due to some unknown shipping / packing / wtf issue) -whiteline 18mm rear sway bar w/ adj endlinks and bushing mounting braces -ST XTA coilovers that apparently have adj dampening and come with camber plates (haven't arrived yet due to some stocking count issue) -forester oil cooler "diy kit" Existing modifications to the car: -p3 scan gauge -oil pressure sensor wired into the p3 gauge -mudflaps (they actually stop rocks from hitting the rear rocker panels lol) I plan on having a shop corner balance the car and give me a baseline suspension setup and then I will tweak it myself as much as I can through the end of the 2014 season...or 2015 season if I don't get parts in time. The end goal is to have phenomenal handling. I don't particularly care about power at this point - I have tracked spec miata's and kept up with gt3's and m3's thru the turns on road courses (bad driver, who knows? don't care to debate that) In the future I'll probably do a header back exhaust and a mild tune to gain maybe 15 hp at the wheels. So my questions are: 1. what did i forget? (stainless brake lines & fluid probably - how important for autox though?) 2. am i stupid for getting a rear sway bar too? 3. what's going to break first with this aggressive suspension setup? Appreciate all the advice I may or may not get Thanks! |

What autox classing are you going to be in? Track classing? That will determine what parts you can buy.

as for trackdays, I will only attend non competition / HPDE events. I'm not really interested in competition against others versus competing against myself. |

I think the oil cooler will take you out of STX.
The axles are weak, and likely to be your first repair/replacement. |

Oil cooler will bump you out of STX.
Get better tires. I don't know why everyone thinks pilot super sports are good autocross tires. |

Sell the MPSS and get tires better suited to autocross. RS3/Rival, etc etc. Do more research, it seems you haven't done much reading as you are missing some really critical things for Street touring (which your wheels bumped you too) yet you have no other supporting mods. Check the STX thread on this board for more info. You didn't start out very well.....

If you want a "well performing car", get appropriate tires . There are really only 4-6 tire options that are competitive. Those Michelins are not one of those tires.

I'll attempt to answer your questions.
1. If you plan to track the car then swapping brake fluid is highly advised. For autocross you're fine with the stock parts and stainless lines are nice but unnecessary for either application. I would also recommend a better brake pad for track use. 2. A rear bar my be beneficial for the track but I would try running just the bigger front bar for autocross. 3. Your suspension doesn't appear overly aggressive providing you don't set the ride height too low. Without drag starts and extreme axle angles your cv joints should last a long time. Note: Michelin PSSs are a great wet/dry extreme performance tire that will work well on the street and track/autox course. Although not a 200 tread rated ultra performance tire (R-S3, ZII, Rivels) you'll probably still be running better rubber than majority of the other cars at most club levels. Have fun with your build! |
