Smile JDL Headers Flex joints

Hi,

I am new to this forum and need some help on headers, I have just picked up a new BRZ. I was doing some research on UEL headers and have ended up with either JDL UEL or Rev works UEL. Since my guy can only get his hand on JDL, I decided to go with JDL. But when I looked at the picture of the headers I see that the headers have Flex Joints. Would those effect the sound? I wanted a straight headers back system.

My plan of my exhaust set up:
JDL UEL Headers
Invidia Overpipe
Invidia catless frontpipe
Greddy CS GTS ver.2 Catback

Does this make a complete header back exhaust?
as for the over and front pipe, good idea to go with invidia, perrin or JDL? Does those pipes effect sound also?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this makes a complete exhaust (headers + headerback).

ALL those pipes will affect sound and you're going to drone and rasp like hell without resonators. As far as front pipe choice, you'll be fine with any of those selections.

Going full catless means it's going to smell too... The flex joints won't really affect sound though I don't think.

you will need a least one cat on your exhaust system to sound great
fully catless sounds like shit!
here a test I did during the installation of my header...the sounds

Since you're buying both a front and an over pipe I'd checkout nameless performance downpipe. Get the catted for noise issues.

JDL makes great products. Won't go wrong with that header

Don't know much about that catback.... I'd look for something on the quiet side since a header adds a lot of sound volume.

Good luck

I have the exact setup you have listed except I have the Invidia N1 Catback. I am catless and I am running e85. I can smell the e85 every now and then, but it is not at all annoying. I run with my windows down most of the time. Also my car has little to no rasp even being catless. The raspyness really can depend on the catback. The resonator in the N1 midpipe and the dual mufflers of the N1 seem to work great for reducing rasp but still giving me a super loud and super rumbly exhaust note.

Here is a break down of how they are laid out. They are the smoothest as possible while still allowing movement. For a street car I dont really recommend running without them. If it was a dedicated race car that gets refreshed after a few hard track days than that may be a different story

Running the N1 with the same setup above except an Invidia catted front pipe. No smell, nice deep bass-like rumble. 0 rasp. Love the sound.

The flex joints are because JDL observed a lot of engine movement in their testing, even at low rpms and idle more than most cars they work on. The lifetime warranty and high quality of JDL makes it all worth it. Also, great coating options!

My understanding is that a high flow catted front pipe gives away only ~1hp compared to a catless front pipe....but you'd gain better sound, less smell, less pollutants. Similarly, you'd probably wanna get a resonated catback as well to control the sound better.

^^ 1hp at most if it's a good high flow cat.

Thanks for all the replies. Just ordered all those parts! Went with JDL headers JDL front n over pipe and Greddy CS GTS. All for about $2700. The JDL parts are coming in a week and half and the Greddy is going to take 6 weeks!! Will post a vid of the sound as soon as I install it. Also wondering, since I will be have no cats, would this cause a CEL? I really don't want a tune to delete the CEL since it will void my warranty. Thanks!

Well sorry to break it to you but you chose the wrong parts if you didn't want a CEL let alone having to tune the car to get rid of them. JDL has no cats thus you will get a CEL...amazing product but they don't have a catted version yet...

They do have a catted version of the EL headers if you wanted to go that way instead.

In order to really have any benefits of "any header" and exhaust you need to tune anyhow that's always been the case. If in event you don't want a visible ecu flash change then you may want to look into an OFT tablet and contact shiv for a tune to get you squared away.
