I think the military broke one of my biological grandpas. He left college for the war, and he had lots of problems afterwards. I never really knew him. My dad was born a year before the boom. My other grandpa turned down the Marines and enlisted in the Army. He had some college under his belt and left to join, and since he'd taken Psychology in school, they put him in a US-based hospital helping with shell-shocked soldiers. My grandma from the first guy remarried, a man who fought in the Pacific. He never wanted to talk about it. They made sure he and his twin brother were rarely if ever on the same boat. Didn't want two to die at once.
