I just use simple green. Put it on mist and spray it around. Hit it with the hose and take the car for a drive to dry it off. If I gets really grimy ill run it to get hot. Then continue the same way.

Edit: I don't cover anything up. I just try not to spray a direct shot at the fuse box.
