A few considerations when going 18:

Higher tire price. Higher weight. Also, if you get a 18x9 wheel you'll be slightly stretching a 245, making the total diameter a bit less, but probably not a substantial amount. Also, your tire choices will be less. 17s have more choices. Since I know you're not planning to drop the car too low, you'd probably want a tire that looks a bit beefier. A 18x8 will hold a 245 just fine and look a bit more squared off where the sidewall meets the tread.
