You can inject water/meth on a screw or roots. If the rotor and screw surface coating is graphite then you may not want to but if it is teflon you can. I have never had any issues with corrosion over the years with methanol or rotor/screw deterioration. Turbos are a little different situation because of the compressor wheel speeds if injecting pre-turbo. The atomized water droplets will literally chip away at the leading edge of the impeller vanes from pure speed almost like a sand blaster. This eventually deteriorates the compressors ability to flow as it should over a considerable amount of time.

Personally I wouldn't be afraid to use water/meth at all. It was when I first started playing with PDs that I became such a water/meth supporter.
