as for fill volume, you fill till it drizzles out the hole guys
Gem, I appreciate your concern regarding the Mustang trans. It does call for Mercon V, and is similar to the BW T-5. I've driven many BW T-5s, and though not a real nice transmission, they feel great compared to the Tremec version in this car. My problem is not with cold shifting like in the FR-S. It gets worse as things warm up. This leads me to believe a slightly thicker oil will help. Many people with this trans have reported good results when switching to RP synchromax/GM synchromesh/Redline MTL (70W80)/etc. I've tried Amsoil's thinner (don't remember the name) MTF, the RP synchromax, and Amsoil's Torque Drive ATF (very robust for an ATF). All felt better than the OE fill.
I already have the fluid in the trans, so I'll give it a try and see how it goes. If the worst happens, there is an adaptor plate available to swap in a TR-3650 5 speed or BW T-56 6 speed trans. Either one would be a vast improvement over what I have now.
