With NASA TT, you are limited to a certain number of points before being moved up into the next class. The base tire size for the TTD class is a 245. Running a 205 nets you 10 points back. The A6 compound is a 13 point tire.

Thus, a 205 A6 would be 13 points (compound) - 10 points (down sized tire) = 3 points.

An R6 compound tire is a +10 point compound. +10 (compound) - 10 (down sized tire) = 0 points.

It's all a strategy. While I'm sure Robi would like to run an A6, but he'd have to find an additional 3 points to do so.
