The original windshield in my '95 Miata looked worse than the paint did after 17 years and almost 100000 miles. OTOH, my '02 Nissan Sentra had rust spots forming ON THE ROOF after less than three years, and the clearcoat cracking and flaking after five. My FR-S already has a bird-dropping blemish on the hood from a dropping I removed within a few hours of it happening. I think it's more a matter of car manufacturers cutting corners these days to save a buck.
