Yeah, BEAMS Redtop is a popular alternative to the 3S-GTE in 6th gen Celicas for people who want to stay NA. The only thing about the BEAMS motors are that they're generally harder to find aftermarket parts for cheaply (or at all...) but they scream until redline and do really well in a light chassis.

I see the FT-86's FA motor as a modern BEAMS; about the same power in a (hopefully) newer block. Combine that with the relatively light FT-86 chassis and you have a combination for a quick, nimble car that enjoys being driven. That's enough for me.
