Are winter tires better in winter conditions? Sure. Are they absolutely necessary? Not for most. 20 degrees this morning and 2" of snow. I had no problem going the speed limit. It's a road, not a racetrack.

As long as you are happy and your needs are met, don't worry about trying to get along in a world full of other people. What you need and want is far more important, I am sure. And your benefit to society must be great too. Good luck with that in the job market and friends department. I personally think you are creating a hazard and obstacle to the other people on the road when you drive the car with stock tires in snow. Those people don't care about what you want to do, but find you slow down their day of trying to meet their personal needs. Pretty risky in my estimation.
