Top spec also has "smart entry and start" plus digital speedo and tach. Oh and it has the better brakes. Sure it is 45 pounds more in weight for the High Spec...but what is 45 pounds? nothing...

Would you rather have a fully loaded car at one premium price or a base model car at low price where you can add each accessory invidually?
I'd rather have the ability to pick and choose which options I want instead of paying pull price and having options that I wouldn't prefer.
I believe that is how Scion is going to set it for the US/Canada... hubcaps, with 2 speakers, unpainted bumpers, halogen lights, cheap looking interior for 20K. The rest will be up to you and what you want to add.

There is supporting arguments for both but I would say, do it how Toyota recommends in the books so you have no warranty issues.

They are run the engine extensively prior to leaving the factory so there is no real benefit with either 1 or 2. I would suggest the Mototune method or just keep the engine loaded for the first hundred miles and then change the oil.
