I grew up in northern Ohio and have driven on ice.
If you drive a car with tires you know aren't capable of the conditions, and then drive it aggressively as he stated, it's driver error. Period. He's driving outside the known limits of the vehicle given the conditions. That is *not* a problem with the car.
Hell he's even turning on VSC sport. In negative 0 degree weather. Come on now....
