According to the ECUTek guys, if you reflash back to stock, the dealer has no way of seeing what you've done. The # of OEM writes remain the same. From how it was described, ECUTek uses a different register to keep track of # of ECUTek writes, and the OEM uses its own register to keep track of dealer writes. ECUTek doesn't touch the OEM one. If you don't reflash back to stock and the dealer attempts to read the ECU, they'll run into errors because the ECUTek flash locks everyone else (including OEM) out. They'll either assume it's a faulty ECU and insist on replacing it, or if they're mod-friendly, they'll hopefully ask you to reflash back to stock. Of course, anyone with an ECUTek tune should always reflash back to stock before bringing the car in for service.

This all being said, are you rejecting the ECUTek claim that they leave no footprint when reflashed back to stock? Would love to see some proof one way or the other, as I've always wondered about this myself.

The dealer can't tell if you reflash back to stock using their normal diagnostic tools, but there is a way that Subaru (not dealers from my understanding) can tell how many times the ECU has been flashed but they have to be speciffically looking for this.
