In my opinion, quit poking around before you do more damage. You lost a rivet? Live with it. Unless it makes an obtuse amount of noise or causes some sort of lack of functionality, quit while you're ahead.
Also, look at my member journal and check out my tail lights. Took about 30 minutes and required no tools at all besides a bit of masking tape and plastic lining
