3) I gain a car with a warranty, better handling, better MPG, peace of mind knowing Subaru/Toyota makes a decently reliable car that I won't have to worry about blowing up or breaking down (or will be fixed for free if it does w/ warranty), better handling, more "sporty" feel, better looking (IMO), usable cargo space (with the fold-down rear seats), more updated equipment (stability control, blue-tooth hands-free radio, etc), and something I can be proud of owning (never really felt that way with this car)
4) I lose a lot of power/torque, usable rear seats, ease of repair (parts are everywhere and are CHEAP)
5) In the end, I stood to gain more than I stood to lose, so it made sense for me

I'll be doing that soon. But aren't you gonna be missing the power of the GTO?

I'll be eventually auto-crossing it if I ever got one, but not as much as some people. And I'm liking the FR-S a lot because it's a Toyota (I'm a Toyota-fanatic ) and it's RWD.

Honestly, I would consider that an upgrade. And plus the reliability like you said is a huge plus.

FWD < RWD

Power, you can always fix with a turbo.

Well, the main differences of a GT and a GT-S is the engine. Then some cosmetics, interior, etc. I think the GT-S was really good for it's time. But then again, your comparing a car's handling/performance that came out in '99 to a car that just came out.

But I still love m Celica, still looks brand new.

The FR-S will outperform the Celica, slightly. The Celica has about 250lbs on the FR-S, but the FR-S makes 20hp and 21lb/ft more (referencing Edmunds, I thought the 2ZZ made 190 but they say 180?). The rear-drive layout, low CoG, balance and LSD will ensure that the FR-S can at least out-corner the Celica. 0-60 times are very close. (does your Celica have LSD?)

I guess all I can say is drive the car and see if the FR-S feels that much better to you to justify the car payment. Getting a new car when you have a perfectly good one is an impulsive buy no matter how you slice it. You don't need it, you want it. Find out if it's worth it and report back!
Even though my Celica is over 8 years old, it's never gave me 1 major problem. And I just hot 101k miles awhile back. And I wouldn't sell the Celica, it's staying in the family. And I did a KBB not to long ago, it came around 12k.

And I think Japan/Europe had 190hp while the US had 180hp. And nope, my Celica doesn't have LSD.

And second to last sentence says it all, I don't need but I want it.

And I'll report back with test drive hopefully soon! This Toyota dealership over here are always out of FR-S's.

I know the FR-S isn't a total package. That's what I really like about it. So I can build it up exactly like how I want it. And I love saying "Built, not bought"

And you should tell your friend to get a 6MT GT-S, he'll be missing out if he gets the auto.

I can't wait to make the transition as well. The only RWD vehicle's that I drove is my dad's Tundra and my mom's Previa, which is also supercharged.

My friend had a Mustang, always doing donuts, soooo much fun. And I tried it, not even close to the same feeling. LOL.
