As for weight in the rear - I've heard conflicting stories. With my old car and old pickup, there was like a 70/30 F/R weight distribution, so you needed 100 lb in the trunk to help. People with 50/50 BMWs and Miatas claim no need to put weight in the trunk, and that just causes the car to spin more (more weight in motion side to side).
You do not need additional weight in the back. Just keep steering wheel straight when start moving, and be gentle on the clutch. I drove RX-8 trough seven winters and never had a problem. I do not expect BRZ to be much different.
