The 2012 safety regs made a lot of cars balloon in weight. Either that or it killed them outright. In 2000 the v6 Mustang was closer to 3100lbs. The same amount as a 2011 RX-8...

I love the RX-8 except it's a bit heavy, the engine is unique but it's thirsty, and the RX-8 starts at $26k. Most of the car mags put it in the same category as the Nissan Fairlady, BMW 1 series, etc. So I don't disagree that people will compare the thrifty FR-S with midrange models. The sports car market isn't really that big or diversified anyway.

I've been watching the used RX-8s just in case I could catch one with high mileage for cheap and have my way with it.
