And would also like to note that just because the engine failed at the track, doesn't mean the cause of the failure was expereinced at the track as well. Things like over-revs that cause engine failures could've happened several hundred (or thousand) miles back...and the part just happened to finally let go at the track.

There's a big hole in the block because he didn't stop driving and it eventually seized a rod to the crank.
That's exactly what would happen on any spun bearing.
