I mean, people have been tracking gen1 cars with no such display.
Furthermore, many gen2 owners don't even put TPMS sensors in their track set of wheels.

Besides, what are you going to do if your tire pressure is 38 and you want 35?
Doing a cooldown lap won't help. I tried.

If you really need real time tire pressures, you might as well make the font larger
And btw that trick was also available on gen1 cars with Android Auto head unit (whether OEM or aftermarket).

Tire pressures provide a lot more than that.

I do have 2 sets of track wheels and additional front wheels; they all have TPMS. I highly recommend that you get them, too : ) I eventually settled with Autel's programmable sensors as well, so I don't even need to switch tire set using the button by the glove box anymore.

Tire pressures can:
  • Let you figure out if you're above or below your hot pressure targets, as you've also alluded to.
  • Let you figure out if you're overdriving one end of the car (e.g. are you overdriving front outer tire??)
  • Let you know if they started warming up (especially important in cold days) in the beginning of sessions.
  • If you are starting at low, not very safe pressures, they can also let you know if you're above threshold (usually 26 PSI) to go fast on straightways.

Anyway, I'd say I'd downright be worried if I don't know the tire pressures on a fast car (like a Z06). It's less critical for these cars, but still very valuable in my opinion.

YMMV

EDIT: Ohhh I just realized you have GR86 and that's why you were arguing if it's really necessary; now I got it, sorry.
