Yes, sump = oil pan. The sender was in the drain port.
I have no idea. We've never done testing with the OEM sender, but the dyno sender is very precise and calibrated regularly. Neither exceeded 260°, so it never became more than an anecdotal observation. 20° was the max difference under 'cruise' conditions. Once on boil or under sustained load the difference would drop some, but not a lot.
