Im just guessing here but
Unless you hack round the secutity, the ecu will want to see all the modules in secutity set dash, imobilisier , authentication and key id reader and a key
Also ecu might keep triggerning limp mode or similar if it doesnt see steering ecu, abs,vsc and stuff as it will think they are broken
