The temperature increase from compressing air is somewhat exponential. PV-nRT is basic physics. If you compress 100* air and it becomes 120*, compressing air at 110* could end up being 135*. How is the intercooler going to cope with the extra 15* of heat?
The density of the air going into the turbo has a large impact on the efficiency of the system. You will never be able to cool the air enough with the intercooler to make up for the lost density, because no intercooler is 100% efficient.
