For my old MX5 the compressor was half the weight of the car.

I stripped the hell out of that thing, it was a NB so I pulled the PS and welded up my rack, lots of weight loss there too.

Shortened bolts, removed brackets, fully stripped interior, no deadening anywhere, lots of hole saw "speed holes" everywhere, removed all airbags, radio and a heap of redundant wiring.

Then I caged it which put alot of weight back in, it needed a cage anyway, and with fixed seats, Sparco Sprint V, and harnesses it was a safety requirement anyway.

Plus the 2kg for the fire extinguisher.

Plus I binned the soft top in favour of a hard top, that added another 2 or 3 kg.

That thing only weighed about 950ish kg in the end, even though it only had about 90 kw ATW NA powers it was big fun and punched well above its weight on tight tracks.

It was noisy and hot during daily duties though.

I once drove it from Sydney to Queensland for a club event, 2000 km round trip, that was a horred experience.

I cannot imagine what a 86 would be like with full added lightness, the things are noisy as hell with full trim as they stand from factory.
