Mine uses about a half a quart between oil changes (7,000 miles).
I wouldn't think it would be necessary to change to the heavier oil for a limited autox and HPDE exposure. But, if it makes you feel better, it won't hurt anything.
It's most important to keep the oil level near the top hole on the dipstick, especially if you are pushing it.
