Yes it can. Not always smoothly though.

When I turn the engine ON while the car is up on jack stands (4 wheels off the ground):
1) With the clutch pedal fully pressed, if I nudge on the shifter 1-2mm in ANY gear direction, the driveshaft starts to spin.* I don't even need to put it in gear, just a slight nudge in any gear's direction.
2) The only time the driveshaft is NOT spinning is when the shifter is in the middle neutral position.

With the car off jack stands (4 wheels on the ground) and the engine is running:
Shifting into any gear is impossible

*I still have the center console off so I can see down through the floor to know when the driveshaft actually spins.
