At least twin owners mount their aftermarket hoods properly. In my other life in the Jeep community, a lot of Cherokee owners think venting the engine bay will relieve engine overheating issues (it doesn't), but they don't want to cut into their hoods. Instead, they install spacers on the hinges to open the back of the engine bay as shown below. I feel like it's a miracle we haven't yet had a decapitation.
