The working harder sound seems to just be resonation. This engine sounds like a lawnmower between 2500 and 3500. Drives me nuts. But at the same time it motivates me to keep the revs down unlike any other car I've ever owned where it's so smooth and quiet that it's easy to creep up to 4k for miles and not even notice.

With the amount of cars and variable traffic conditions in NYC, I could argue constantly shifting to get in and out of powerband would put too much wear on my clutch and transmission. I'd rather stay in third and be able to go from 30 to 80ish without worrying too much. I'm usually stuck between 40 and 70 on the highways around here.
Plus, its more fun.
Kinda wish this was logged some where, but I'd bet at least 80% of my driving (time wise) is in gears 1 through 4. Sometimes 5, rarely 6. The only time I really just cruise in 6 is for those long road trips (3-5+ hours) where I'm 100 miles from the next exit and not surrounded by other cars.
