Well, see there's your problem. I learned this lesson a long time ago, mostly from riding motorcycles.
If I go to pass someone (on a two land road where I have to use the oncoming traffic lane) I fully commit and do it as quickly as possible from the start. Signal on, downshift two gears, floor it and shoot around, alternate signal on, back in lane.
Some people may consider I'm being a tool, but really I just don't want to end up in a drag race or in a ditch.
