As far as the original question goes, I agree with the overall sentiment. Get it towed to the dealership.

Yes, if a major warranty repair is done near the end of the factory warranty period, the factory (or the dealership) might offer some extended coverage
as a customer accomodation.
But the
original factory warranty is time-and-mileage specific. Having a component replaced does not restart the clock on the original factory warranty.
