Since the TOB on these cars is an "active" type, as long as the engine is running, the TOB is turning.
True, that it is "working" only when the clutch pedal is depressed, however it can still make a racket when it is not working.

Ultramaroon when we need him ....... he's got a good ear for these powertrain noises .....
