Also like you said, its just not possible to react fast enough to a car which you have no experience with that exact situation in. The first time I drifted the car intentionally, just on instinct coming from AWD, I gave the car too much gas after the back end starting coming out.
If my steering input hadn't have been good and my "OH F@$@" reaction was to clutch or slam on the breaks, I definitely could have been the first wrecked brz.
That's enough confessions for the the day though. I don't recommend this throw yourself in the fire type of learning, but we all do stupid things.

i threw myself into the fire, but it was in an empty parking lot and nothing to hit... im still not comfortable with turning everything off, still leaving it in vsc sport for a while

there is a corner though on the way to my gf's house that well, its banked concrete 2 lanes wide, isnt a blind corner and nobody takes the street, drift it evey time!
entrance speed 32-35 mph, 2nd gear, 40% throttle, turn in, then counter 2-5 ft from the apex, 80% throttle, tires break loose on the yellow lines, power through when the car starts to correct, begin a stupid grin for the next 2-3 miles
ive got tire marks going both directions lol...
nothing but flat grass around the corner, so nothing to hit

have yet to slide off or turn myself around
