Anyway... Is it weird that I want to add FI to my BRZ eventually? The car probably would have cost me 45k in total by that point? Wheels, suspension, full exhaust, SC, and all the labor combined.
The way I see it... I look around at other (new) cars for 45k and I don't see anything I'd want to pick over the BRZ.
The lack of torque down low is annoying for traffic, sometimes, I can see that. I tend to blip to 2K RPM when in stop-and-go traffic just so the engine doesnt sound like a tractor as it tries to make my car creep forward. Or god forbid I'm on even a slight incline and I stall because I don't give enough gas.
Its just not as smooth I guess?
Once I'm rolling around on the highway though, passing other cars and whatnot really isnt an issue. I'm already hitting speeds that would get me in trouble while passing.
Our car isnt practical. None of the cars discussed in this thread are practical. No matter what, you're not spending your money wisely if you have one of these cars. The question is, what do you want to waste your money on?

Not weird at all to WANT to add power loads of guys do and there is no bad reason for it when the statement is "want" and not "need". If you are "blipping" to 2000 revs when moving then you are just not doing something right. There is no "lack of torque" down low and you should not "sound like a tractor" if you are in the proper gear for the speed. Stalling on an incline is NEVER the car's fault.
Maybe my car is just special but stop and go traffic has never been a problem since I just keep it in first or second and maintain the revs between 2000 and 3000. If I need to clutch in and roll because the speed had dropped below where I can maintain the needed revs I just clutch in and roll. This is no different then driving any other MT car regardless of power. Driving MT in traffic is a pain in the ass in any car but gets even trickier when it is an engine that makes power through revs instead of displacement. Going FI is not going to change the stop and go situation one little bit since you will still need to maintain revs at very low speeds.
So the moral of the story is, when driving in traffic just drive in the proper range with frequent clutch work and revs, swap to a larger displacement engine that isn't so rev happy or buy an auto which will do the work for you. There is no magic that will make a small displacement engine easier to drive at low speeds.
