Mishi is even less expensive so you'd wind up saving even less money trying to build it.
Basically, unless you really like to fabricate your own stuff, want to save every last dime possible, or need some custom application (like mounting behind a fog light or at the rear of the car with a fan, etc.), most people wouldn't find the trouble worth the savings.

I like to build stuff, and if I get lazy my roomate makes Hydraulic lines for a living, I'm sure we could make some amazing lines. The biggest issue would be the Adapter.
