Given other's experience, its not in your head, your car is pulling timing to prevent detonation. It could still happen, so "caveat emptor." I'd take crickets over decreased efficiency, but if its that important to you...

I took it out to piercey toyota, where i brought the car and they said that it was meant to be this way and there is no fix. When I got the car new it didn't have the sound, so i was wondering if theres anything i can do, or am i stuck with the sound?

Thread Summary in 3 points:
1) Yes, this is normal and a large number of twins seem to have it (see above poll)
2) Toyota does not have a fix and will not be fixing it. E0 (no ethanol) is not a guaranteed fix, as some owners have reported the crickets returning. Cold temperatures seem to make the crickets "hibernate" (ambient temperatures below 40 F)
3) They *may* fade over time. Many owners when they had their pump replaced reported them coming back "louder than ever." I am still on my original pump and the crickets seem to be a little quieter, or I am more used to them
Epilogue: Enjoy your car. You'll get used to the crickets, and you have an explanation in case anyone asks.
Honestly, I wish we could make my post there part of the FT86 FAQ.
