Even back then they could straighten a bent frame. The bad part was if you were in a collision bad enough to bend the frame they were fixing it for the next guy because you were dead.


On a lighter note (so Steve get's his fix) I once used an angle grinder to cut slots in the frame of my Gremlin so I could bolt a bar with a trailer hitch to it. Wasn't even remotely concerned that I was compromising the integrity of the car.
