Sounds like wheelhop (aka axle wrap), and it can break stuff if you don't get off the throttle when it happens. It is usually caused by flex in the drivetrain/rear suspension. Soft bushings at the suspension mounting points and in the rear control arms is one of the biggest causes. Control arm flex will also do it. Aftermarket control arms will usually stop it. Poly bushings or even just "boxing" the stock control arms will usually be a big help at a lower cost...
