It got down to -25F one night and I remember waking up, but still with my eyes closed, feeling the snow falling on my face. The catch is, I was in my NorthFace Mountain tent at the time. I freaked.. thought that somehow my tent had ripped or a tree had fallen on it during the night or something. Then I opened my eyes and saw that everything was fine. It was so cold that my breath, throughout the night, had frozen and condensed into a small stalagmite (or is it a stalactite? I can never remember which one hangs) on the roof of my tent over my head and was flaking off and falling back down on me! I was still toasty warm.. except for the tip of my nose.
As you know, the hardest part about camping in the winter is getting up the nerve to get outta your bag in the morning and getting that first cup o' joe in you!
Oh.. I don't know where in Quebec you are.. I used to camp and fish in the Verendrye Reserve almost every late August from the early 70s up until the 90s. We usually stayed on Lac Andou or Cabonga. Beautiful place, and the Northern Pike and Walleye fishing was wonderful. Over the years, like every where else in the world, it got built up, less remote, overfished, and less fun, so we haven't been in a long time. GREAT memories of driving up to Maniwaki, then heading further north on nothin' but dirt roads. Are you familiar with that part of Quebec?
Best to ya,
