I think at the end of the day, it comes down to whether or not Toyota wants to bring it state-side. Hell, Toyota sold the xA side-by-side with the xB1, and Yaris for 3 years. It mostly worked because they all looked extremely different. To non-car people, that's enough to separate otherwise mechanically similar cars.

They are targeting $20k, and I'm pretty sure they have every intention of it coming to the US.
