52 is not cold enough. IIRC you should see low 40's at the vent. Google the question and see what you come up with.
I park my car in the shade, use reflective window shades, and put the windows down a couple inches here in So Cal and don't have a problem with it getting too hot inside. But, as was said, if it is super hot inside open both doors fully and start the AC to get the superheated air out and the AC down to temp before you get in.
