I have taken meticulous care of my car, and it's garage kept and not driven in winter. Sure enough, slight rust is present, but only on the drivers side. I have barely ever used the passenger side door, it's been opened maybe 15 times since I've owned it, and no rust is present.
If you shut the door you can almost watch it happen.

In mine, when you drive down the road with the window down and rest your hand on that spot, you can feel the vibration going to that area which is most likely causing it to rub and rust. I have rust showing on both the passenger and driver side which I am getting looked at tomorrow with my oil change.
