So the rattle came back the next day after I posted this.

I had some time this weekend to mess around with the shifter and I believe I have found a definitive solution (at least for me).

The reverse lockout plate was bolted too closely to the reverse lockout lever, so when the car was in 1st or 2nd the reverse lockout would still be in contact with the plate that prevents it from going into reverse.

I moved the plate out further and now it only rattles for a moment once I hit redline. I plan to put some rubber mat in between a few of the pieces to completely eliminate the issue.
