Please elaborate on your claim that most synthetic oils do NOT come from a synthetic base stock as well as other Mobil1 oils do NOT.

You are going by very old, outdated assumptions. If you are referring to Group III base stocks, Mobil1 0W40 does indeed use Group III base stocks. Try doing a google search on Visom. Mobil1 uses Group III, Group VI PAO's, and Group V aklylated naphthalene base stocks across all of their synthetic oils. Most synthetic oils today are blend of at least two base stocks.

And Shell's Group III GTL base stocks match or beat PAO's. And the overall package is more important than base stocks anyway.
