I was thinking the same, but if you look closely there are multiple small cracks on the upper edge. There is space/air/gap underneath the top paint, and I believe it cracked after the fact from peeling up.

I considered that, and may have missed a small crack when I washed it 2.5wks ago, and the rust could've been forming for a while. But there were no visible signs that I saw.

I'm betting Subaru is going to tell me the exact same, that something flew up and hit it. Probably nothing I can do to prove otherwise. Going to try on Friday anyways.
