Yes.. I know sound is determined by shape, time/speed, frequency (it's actually my second job.. I've been involved in sound engineering and music for 15+ years). Loudness is just another word for amplitude. You'll be surprised how closely related sound, visual and physical matter really is (they all involve wavelengths).
I'm not disregarding your input; I listen to it and take it as very valuable info. But, it sounds like you and some others, disregard mine. I simply corrected you a little in regard to short vs long wavelengths (which maybe a typo on your part); but you can't seem to admit to that.

The long wavelengths cause the baffling inside the muffler to vibrate... which is what causes the nasty rattling. It's a result of the muffler design, which was designed such to work in conjunction with existing cats on the stock car, to be as cost-effective as possible from the factory.
Now, lets take another example. I have no cats on my S2000. Zero rattling, only a mild rasp at WOT.
