I don't think they hit that (It took nearly 2 years for the first 100k) and given current numbers and history of Japanese sports cars they never will. It's done well but I don't think it met optimistic expectations, it probably exceeded minimum expectations, but doesn't exactly bode well for long term viability of the small lightweight sports car market.
Did you read the rest?

"Since the introduction on February 2, 7,000 orders of the Toyota 86 have been placed, which are as seven times the monthly sales target, while 2,500 orders for the Subaru BRZ have been placed since its on February 3 – which is 5.6 times as the original target."

According to that, their target was only 12,000 86s and 446 BRZs each year.

Not sure if that was just Japan or what?
