This is actually a big deal, though many cars are now using a system then raises the hood in a pedestrian crash. Look around and you'll see most cars sporting bulbous front ends, proving his point.

Insurance rates have far more to do with the driver than the car. When I asked for quotes on multiple cars from my insurance guy, he pointed out that all the quotes he'd given me before were pretty much the same.
