It's about total diameter, so as you go wider you need to go with a shorter sidewall number to match the ideal diameter. For speedo accuracy, you want to stay within 5% max, but close as possible to stock.
OEM diameter for 215/45R17 is 24.6"
- 225/40R18 - pretty close, 25.1", 7.5-9" wheel
- 235/40R18 - bit tall but okay 25.4", 8-9.5" wheel
- 245/35R18 - just about perfect 24.8", 8-9.5" wheel
- 255/35R18 - pretty close but still okay, 25.0", 8.5-10" wheel
- 265/35R18 - even taller but doable, 25.3", 9-10.5" wheel
- 275/35R18 - tall but within 5%, 25.6", 9-11" wheel
- 285/30R18 - close to perfect OEM diameter, 24.7", 9.5-10.5" wheel
What is your suspension setup? Stock, lowering springs or coilovers, camber settings?

I am lowered 1" all over - using Megan Racing Streets Coil Overs (not the ez ones). I don't have any camber settings right now.
Looks like 245/35 seems likes a go for me in that case.
What about 235/35? Would that be too skinny for a 300 whp grip?
As for 8-9.5 wheels, is it advantageous to choose bigger or is it just user preference?
