The reason I was asking about RPM is if you're starting to apply power at ~4000 RPM in 2nd gear coming off the apex, a tune and UEL header will do wonders to fill out the torque dip there. Easy 15-20 lb-ft gain in that area. That might be more effective than changing out the FD ratio.
