That's the zone of diminishing returns... but if a team has the instrumentation, funding, and manpower to tune an 8-way system... more power to them!
I'd guess that the standard 4 adjustments are there (high and low speed, compression and rebound). Now I'm going to wildly speculate the other 4, in hopes that someone will correct me:
- tuning the capacity of external reservoirs and internal chambers (not just pressures)
- tune the compression/rebound transitions to control hysteresis
- narrow or widen the channels within the piston (not just the shims)
- control of secondary nozzles
